David and Shirley live in the small Texas City called Ore City…   It is just north of Longview.      They have 25 acres in a beautiful country setting and have it all set up with easy access for RV’s and 5th wheels to get to the back yard, making it one of the nicest campgrounds we have ever stayed at.     Shirley had lunch all ready for us when we arrived: some nice hot soup on a very cold day.     It was great.   After catching up on what’s happened since we last saw them, they took us out to show us the places around their home.      There is a huge lake that is a Corp of Engineer Park.    It is just beautifulo and most camp sites back right up to the lake.     It was so cold and windy out that there were whitecaps on the water and we were glad we were camping in the pines this time instead of the water.Next we went to the Historic town of Jefferson.     The city has some beautiful Plantation houses where you could almost see Scarlet O’Hare sitting on the front porch.      We went inside a General Store that was like out of a movie set.    I bought a jar of salsa to have later from there…..    Next was the Excelsior House Hotel that is still in use today.    It is a beautiful Hotel that has seen many very special guest’s including U.S.Grant , LBJ and Lady Bird Johnson.    In fact, Lady Bird was from this area and there is a room in the hotel named after her….   Across the street from the hotel is the “Atalanta”, a private parlor car owned by railroad tycoon Mr. Jay Gould.     There is quite a story about this guy that is very interesting but you will have to go there yourself to find out what it is.After stopping at a neat little place for some real Texas Bar-B-Q we went back and visited in front of a nice fire until time for bed.     This morning Shirley sent us off with a delicious breakfast of sausage, eggs, biscuits and just for me by request, she made raison toast.     Boy did they ever spoil us.     These two are very special and we look forward to the next time we get a chance to see them..     Thanks so much Padre and Shirley.Today we are on the way to Dallas to see kids and grandkids….  Yippee
