It rained pretty steadily overnight but we were glad to awake to a dry morning. It’s never much fun to disconnect utilities and hook up the car in the rain. Joe likes to do some of that prep the day before we leave. With one last check on email, it was time to stow the satellite dish…oh, oh, dish won’t stow with the stow command from the computer. Joe suspected debris and pine needles were the culprits so a couple of trips to the roof and the dish was down. We were ready to go.
We had a short ride, 150 miles roughly to southern Vermont. So we took I-495 to the Mass. Pike, made a donation of $6.55, which we know they don’t use to maintain the road (it was one of the roughest roads we’ve been on for a while), then we picked up I-91 and we were in Brattleboro, VT in short order.
We certainly miss the nice long pull-through, spacious rest areas we encounter most of the time on the road; not so here in Mass. We stopped at one of the service plazas on the turnpike and we just “live parked” in a spot for a few minutes to get Foxy out for a walk and a break for Joe. There was no place to linger for a relaxing stop. We attempted another pull-off on I-91 but it was a ‘no go’ too, just a scenic look-out and no place to park a big rig…..space is at a premium in these parts.
We are at the KOA north of Brattleboro and the rain is heading our way. We booked in for 5 nights so we hope we get at least a couple of days fine weather to do some sightseeing…..so, stay tuned.
