If you are drawn to out of the way places and enjoy traveling backroads to get there, this site may be of interest to you.
Janine and I are based in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. We love to travel and since we retired we have unlimited time to do so.(Please refer to our Personal Profile link on this page if you would like more info about us)
Our favourite mode of travel is by motorcycle and backroads are always our preferred route. As well, if we can get from point "A" to point "B" without touching pavement all the better.
We often come across fantastic little towns, hidden locales and beautiful natural locations that most travellers never see. We also meet a lot of great local people who are away from the tourist industry facade.
We hope this website will be informative and helpfull to anyone that is interested in or planning similar trips. We update this journal frequently from the road. Our latest trip was a 6 month exploration of Mexico and Central America by motorcycle. Click here to view our this journey which we undertook from September 2008 to April 2009.
We had planned to start exploring South America begining November 2009 however poor Janine suffered an injury that forced a postponment until the fall of 2010.
I am currently on the road in Mexico solo while Janine recovers. The current trip journal is Plan B, Mexico + Motorcycle = ?
The motorcycle we have used for all our trips to date is a BMW F650GS Dakar which is classified as an adventure-touring or overland-touring bike.

In May of 2009 we purchased a new motorcycle, the recently released BMW F800GS, specifically for our trip to South America. It is similar to the F650GS Dakar with added power and weight capacity. For details on the F800GS preparation and evaluations please click here.
