To borrow an old line – ‘it was the best of times - it was the worst of times’ - I refer to pre-tour preparation.
Having thought long and hard we finally uttered the immortal expletive ‘stuff it’ (or something stronger) and decided to go, a date was set and the wheels of change were set in motion. We needed a vehicle, equipment, to sort out our everyday life and we really need to let work know.
The following week we had the vehicle and were busy preparing everything as we counted down our four weeks notice. Having looked at a good few vehicles we opted for a Toyota 4Runner as our means of transport, I added a hefty ‘roo’ bar for the front, side steps (for the vertically challenged love of my life), roof rack, awning and a fridge. A good check-over and a service got everything working again and mechanically we were ready to go. As our ‘advent – ure’ calendar counted down, my desk softened physique & soft girlie pampered hands returned to a once bye-gone rough and unpleasant oil stained state, as our belongings were boxed into storage and our rental apartment scrubbed with bleach prior to our departure.
