Rescued Rudi's Roadtrip |
|
Hi! My name is Rudi and when I was puppy I got lost. I wasn’t actually lost, at least not at first. I was living with a family and everything was good at first. But as I grew up they didn’t think I was so cute anymore and they forgot about me, or least seemed to. Then one day they started packing up the house and really stopped paying attention to me. After a couple of days of packing, they put me on the porch, got into the car and drove away. I waited and waited, but they didn’t come home. I got really scared when it got dark, but the I was really hungry the next morning so I went looking for something to eat. I wandered the neighborhood, but wasn’t having much luck, so I headed out into “the world”. I walked and walked, and found a few scraps to eat here and there, but all of a sudden a nice man in a big truck picked me up. He took me to a shelter where they checked me over, gave me some food and then put me into a cage! There was a lot of other big, scary, barking dogs there. I was so afraid! Then a very nice lady from Arizona Chihuahua Rescue came and picked me up and cuddled me close. She took me home and I had a family again. I was so happy to live with her!
I stayed with my Foster Mom for a short time until I got settled in and got some very important medical care. She made sure I got my shots so I wouldn’t get sick and then I had SURGERY to make sure I stayed healthy and that I would never help make any more babies. I didn’t like the surgery part, but all the rest of my time with her was really, really fun! She took such good care of all of us.
While I was staying with my foster Mom, I had several foster brothers and sisters. One sister, DeeDee, told me all about the time while she was lost. She said she had a family once too, but they took her somewhere where she didn’t know where she was and put her out on the street and just left her! She got really sick too – she got bugs called fleas and ear mites and caught a really bad cold. She also had a bug on her skin and it made her go bald! She told me how nice Mom was to her and she got all better. She told me she had been named after a famous Iditarod dog musher. She said she was going to be sled dog when she grew up! I thought that sounded really fun, so I thought maybe that’s what I wanted to be too. But I have to get to Alaska first to train for the race.
I’m so glad the Chihuahua Rescue came and got me – they do such good work and they’re all VOLUNTEERS! All the foster parents take us lost or forgotten or hurt dogs into their own homes and nurse us back to health. Then they find us the best forever homes! They’re always so careful about who they adopt us to. My foster mom found me a GREAT home. My Mom takes me with her everywhere and just loves to sit with me on the sofa and cuddle me. I love her so much! I miss my foster mom sometimes too, so that’s why I’m taking this trip. She and the other fosters and volunteers with the Rescue were so good to me, I want to do something to help them out. Some dogs come to rescue sick or injured and their medical care is so expensive! Those costs are not passed on to the adopter either – the fees stay the same. I really want to help Arizona Chihuahua Rescue raise some donations so they can keep helping other dogs like me.
Remember to check back to this blog and as you send donations, it’ll send me further and further on my journey. I’m really hoping to go all the way to Alaska so I can become the sled dog I know I was born to be! My foster mom always told me about how pretty Alaska is and how some lucky dogs up there get to run and run and run. The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is held every March and I hope to get to Anchorage in time to run the race too! Ever since DeeDee told me about it, I’ve dreamed of being a lead dog on a team. I KNOW I could do the job – there’s no moose or bear big enough to scare ME!
