Great sailing and fishing decor in the Capitaine's restaurant

May 26 - Saint Flavie, about 20km east of Rimouski

Now this is a cool place. Waterfront campsite at Capitaine Homard (lobster) campground and restaurant. They even have WiFi to your site. Lobster season starts at the end of April and ends on June 30th in the Gaspe (Gaspesie in French) so we had our first feast this evening. We each had a two pounder. It was good, but still expensive. About $17 per pound. Hopefully we can purchase from fisherman in the future and boil it ourselves.

You get a large tidal change at this part of the St. Lawrence. I think the ocean tide affect starts at Quebec City, from there on, the St. Lawrence is very wide. At high tide, the water is right up to the campground. At low tide, you can walk out on fairly flat rock for about 200 feet. There are numerous boulders situated in the water that become visible at low tide.

There are many artists in the area and therefore art galleries. About 5km inland is the town of Mont Joli. Here you can get all the services you need. The town is a bit like Chemanis on Vancouver Island, with many murals painted on the sides of buildings.

The weather is still cool with a light rain. Forecast is for mostly sunny skies for the next week. We may get very lucky and see the Gaspe in sunshine.
