Were woken up at 7am so we could hit the early surf. We had breakfast, during which quite a few people were saying they didn't want to go, most changed their mind when they saw the majority were going. Only some of the girls pulled out.
We put our wetsuits on which were still wet from the day before, and very cold! We knew which was our suit as each of them had a name, Colin's was Mr Bean and Nina's was Meat Lover! We walked out to the beach and were pleased to see we were at the end nearest to us, so no long walk. The surf was much better today, it was a bit calmer meaning we had more time to paddle ouf and prepare for a wave. Nina proved to be quite a natural, and with some assistance from the surf instructors she was able to stand up and stay on her feet for a short time, before falling off. The male surf instructors seemed to pay the girls much more attention so Colin was attempting it on his own, he was able to get to his feet but struggled to stay standing up. We enjoyed the surfing but felt the previous afternoon and that morning were not long enough to progress much, plus there were not enough surf instructors for the amount of us learning, so we didn't get the help we needed.
We stayed in the sea until about 10.15am, then headed back for more cold showers. The bus left at 11am to head to Byron Bay, and on leaving crazy Bob decided to pull his pants down, put a stick between his legs and hop beside the bus pretending to be a White Tailed Wallaby! Not a pretty sight!
We stopped for lunch in a town called Grafton, then drove for a long time and took a break at a shop, with a gigantic Prawn on its roof, while the bus was refuled. We were starting to realise just how much driving was involved to travel around Australia, its so large and the cities and towns are spread over great distances.
We arrived in Byron Bay in the early evening. After checking into out hostel we did some much needed laundry, then got ourselves ready for a big night at a night club called Cheeky Monkeys, across the road from the hostel. Everyone had arranged to meet for dinner there as they had cheap meals and gave lots of free beer to the Oz Exp bus. We met at 8pm, had a good dinner, followed by some games on the stage which Nina participated in (the photos will explain!). After that the music goes up and everyone dances on the tables. We all got very drunk and had a good night!
