We went for a big drive this day! Left our MH parked in Antigonish, left early in the morning and headed for Cape Breton, the north end of Nova Scotia. We stopped at Baddeck for more gas and learned that there was a museum about Alexander Graham Bell close by and also a school for the Celtic language and where people of any age can take lessons to play bag pipes, drums, etc. Bell and his wife had moved from Washington, DC to Baddeck because he disliked the hustle and bustle and parties of Washington. He had immigrated to Ontario from Scotland, moved to the US and became a citizen before he invented the telephone. He may have invented several hundred things in his life time. He experimented with sheep for a number of years in Baddeck. But he liked flight and built many large kites trying to figure a way for men to fly. It was about the same time that the Wright's did fly. Bell invented and anemometer to put on a kite which would give wind speed. He did build quite a hydroplane which nearly flew from the water and it was on display. His mother and wife were both deaf so many of his early inventions went to help with the deaf. He actually taught deaf students when he was very young. I will have to get out books to read on this man. We didn't stay at the museum nearly long enough!

The Celtic college was in session but no one was allowed to tour it. They had finished their summer piping before we were there. You could not believe the prices of hats, caps and the like there. I didn't buy a kilt either!! Not enough Scotch in my for that. Ha

The Cabot trail was great, although after one has driven the mountains of Western Colorado a lot it wasn't quite the same. The forest is very lush and thick with different trees. It would be a beautiful drive after the trees turn color but we were too early. We were glad to see the moose cow and calf. There are a lot of black bear over there too but we didn't see any at all. The roads are for the most part, awful, very broken up and crooked and up and down all the time. We drove about 375 miles that day; some of it was on a freeway though.

See you on the next set of updates. Love, Gordon and Susan
