Craig's cabbage

6-10 Today we drove to Hatcher Pass, a high pass in the local mountain range, and found it to be still closed. Opens June 14th. But we did some gold panning in the Little Susitna River. Got a few extremely small flecks. Probably a hundreth of a gram. But had a fun day. We are going back to make our fortune!

6-14 Went to Palmer for their Pioneer days celebration. Parade, vendors, fun except that it was raining. Typical small town parade with old tractors, a bed race and local school bands. One feature new for us was a group of forestry firefighters. It seemed like the whole town turned out for this. The parade was only 3 blocks long but they had over 30 entries. It was a hoot.

We then went back to the Eagle River Nature Center where they released a juvenile bald eagle that had been rehabilitated. Unfortunatly, Craig forgot to charge his camera battery, and we didn't get any pictures. The eagle flew about 100 yards and stopped to roost in a tree.
