33 Thunder Bay - rest Jul 23, 2008

Rest days could be called chore days. Since we are almost half way done I took my bike into Fresh Air Experience to have the chain replaced and to receive a general tune up. While they were working on it I walked to another bike shop and a pharmacy to do some shopping, went to Cronos Café for a great pork souvlaki pita and a chocolate milkshake with a double shot of espresso.

After I picked up my bike I headed to the opposite side of town to see if I could find Hillcrest High where I finished high school. I managed to find a door that was accidentally left ajar and went into the school and up to the main office to see if the same plaques were displayed as 38 years ago when I left. As expected they were no longer there. I did however run into a custodian who had been in my brother's class and who actually remembered my name.

I then went to take some pictures of the house I had lived in at the time and found that somewhere along the line the owner had bought the vacant lot next door and essentially doubled the size of the house as well as building extensive decks on the back of the existing structure.

Then it was off to Bay Street and the Hoito Restaurant which serve great food and lots of it at a modest price. For $12 I had a large bowl of homemade soup with two slices of rye bread, two ¼ pound hamburger patties with gravy, a pile of fries with gravy, steamed vegetables, a large pile of coleslaw, a large orange juice, and pie. The restaurant also had a set of scales. It turns out I haven't actually lost much weight. I was 188 before eating and 192 after eating, so I am only down 3 to 7 pounds.

Then it was back to my room to update this journal and sort through everything I own before putting it back on the truck.
