June 30
We left the campground about 9:45. Chuck did not want me to cook breakfast because it would be so late before we left the campground.
This area is full of wineries. We went to Niagara On the Lake, after 20 turns we were there. Sara was starting to have De ja vu. We talked about getting a breakfast sandwich and I said I wanted a donut. Whatdaya know, we pass a donut shop. We got donuts to go and walked across the parking lot and ate breakfast at the local restaurant. (I ate my donut on the way). We walk into the restaurant and it was like an ice box in there. Why can’t they get this A/C thing right?
Sara and I were planning our shopping. We will visit the antiques place just down the street and then a couple of wineries. Then comes the rain. Pouring,m with lightning and thunder! There goes our plan. So we ate and headed towards Toronto, no shopping, no wine. We were on the QEW, it is like our interstate. It is congested and confusing. There is a sign that says, “30 kilometers over = $10,000. fine! No, I did NOT misplace the decimal. Chuck cannot see the kilometers on the speedometer. I figured out how to change my program to show the speed in kilometers. See, I knew he would be happy I have the “speed spy cam”. Then the sign says Sudbury 395. I got excited (my map said 309 miles) and Sara says, “That is 395 kilometers”. The cities were very congested, the traffic was terrible and the road signs not tourist friendly. There was a lot of industry along the QEW. We even went by the Double Bubble plant. The rained cleared up around Toronto, but we had already passed the wineries.
We passed information signs that gave directions to the Echo Family Nudist Park and
Bare Oaks Naturist Park. We couldn’t believe they actually have road signs to these places.
We took the QEW over to TC69. (Trans Canada). This road was bad. For the most part the roads we were on were really bad. We drove and drove. I tell you, those kilometers make the trip last forever. The scenery was beautiful. It was really interesting how the countryside changed. Outside of their major cities were farmlands, just like our country. Rolling hills, crops and quiet. Then we got into the rocky areas, the rocks were beautiful. You could see the various rock layers and how the road was cut through them.
We stopped at a marina, I don’t really know why, but we let AJ walk. It looked over one of the major lakes.
About 4:00 we are getting hungry and they must have moved Sudbury, because we still have not arrived. We found a park. Grundy Lake Provincial Park. We told the people we were only going to be there an hour, we just wanted to eat. Sara navigated us back into the park. All dirt roads and a half a lane wide. We finally made it and it was worth the nail biting, tree dodging, and pants wetting. We parked on a spot by the lake and Chuck grilled hamburgers. Ah yes, finally, Chuck’s hamburgers. They were great! We had a permit for one hour and we left just in time.
We were still 85 kilometers from Sudbury and the campground. We arrived at the campground about 6:45. The lady at the campground is going to Sarasota for a convention next week. What a small world. The campground is on the lake, we walked down to the lake and Sara put her feet in the water. She said it was probably 68°. We had to buy firewood. Chuck got the fire going real good and then came the rain and put out our fire, soaked the chairs and sent us running inside. After everything was soaked it quit raining and Sara, Chuck and AJ went back outside to endure the bugs.
Internet service and Nextel service is very limited. Beer is not easy to come by either. So we will be back in the states tomorrow night. We shouldn’t have any problems, we don’t have any alcohol left to declare. We drank it all, however, Sara is slacking on the wine and we have a bottle of that left. I think Chuck has a bottle of Rumplemintz hidden somewhere. I am sure I can find it, if I need too.
Love to all. Stay happy. Enjoy life.
