This is a delayed posting; the internet connections at our last 2 campgrounds were not reliable enough to upload pictures so we're behind. We have a great connection here at Talkeetna so I'll try to catch up before we leave.
We went on a boat tour of Kenai Fijords National Park on Monday, July 28th. A van from the boat picked us up at the RV park about 10:00 am, we didn't drive because long term parking near the docks in Seward is limited, and expensive. We checked in at the office, got our boarding passes and meal tickets and went out on the dock, waited for a bit, boarded and departed on the 6 hour tour about noon.
The boat was a catamaran, the weather was good: partly cloudly with light breezes, the water was calm. There was a National Park Ranger on board, as with the previous tours, to provide comments about the NP and wild life along the way.
Maryann and I have taken a similar tour with a different vendor twice, once on each of our previous trips in 2002 and 2004. The most notable feature of this tour was how smooth it was due to the boat and the calm seas. (I got sea sick on our second trip).
We saw mountains rising from the sea at the edges of the fijords, glaciers, many and different sea birds, humpback whales, seals, and sea lions. (We didn't see any killer whales on this tour as we had in our previous tours but I've included a picture of a pair from our 2004 tour). The Holgate Glacier was quiet on this trip, no large blocks of ice were calved, but Maryann did get a picture of one small icefall.
We had a nice day and enjoyed the trip.
