We had a lovely day today. Got up around 9am, packed a picnic and set off along the Loyalist Trail. The route went right along the shores of Lake Ontario and the weather was beautiful so we had the top down. As we traveled, we saw a lot of Union Jacks, but not the current ones, the old ones before Ireland was added. The Loyalist Trail basically passed through some lovely small towns where British supporters from America settled after the War of Independence. They didn’t want to be independent and so moved north into Canada and settled along the Loyalist Route hence the name – they were loyal to the Crown. We found a spot in a little village called Wellington which was on the beach so we sat and had our picnic and I paddled. The weather was gorgeous but then the wind started picking up and on the way back we drove through heavy rain. Luckily though we had seen everything we wanted to see during the sunshine so it was fine. Watched a great film in the evening called Next and then earlyish to bed again. Tomorrow, we will head north towards Ottawa where we will spend a few days before heading over to Montreal to stay with Alicia. I can’t wait to see her!! Unfortunately though, Kate has broken again and so I will have to ring Alicia for directions!!!
