Once again, the Lonely Planet Canada proved to be a useful resource. We called a B&B to see if they had a room, and luckily for us they did. It was easy to find and the woman named Louise who manages the McVicker Manor was warm and friendly. She was surprised to find out how we learned of the residence and told us that if we had come any earlier in the year, we would not have found a room available. They are usually booked solid from early spring to late summer.
The house was lovely and our room adorable. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine before heading out to dinner and when we couldn’t decide whether to have the wine before or after our meal, Louise encouraged us to have two glasses on the house. We had a great meal at a place Louise recommended and settled into the room in great comfort. I even had a bubble bath just to enjoy the Victorian atmosphere of the house a little longer before sleeping.
Breakfast was terrific, served with great style in the large dining room. We chatted with the other guests and Louise even joined us for a short while. All this style and comfort for far less that the hotel in Kenora. Lady Luck was watching over us again and we washed ourselves of the bad experience the previous night.
