From Highway 49 Bridge - View of The County

Hi Everyone!

(Note: I am very sorry that I am a month behind in adding to our website. Today is actually Nov 7 and I am finally adding Oct 7th notes!)

Today we took a trip to an old town - Kingston, the original choice as capital from 1841 until 1844 of the united Canadas. Over the next years Kingston lost out to the alternating locations of Montreal and Toronto and later to Ottawa in 1857 (the city that kept that title). Kingston was home to Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, and on June 13, 1841 it was the site of the first meeting of the Parliament of Canada! An area on the northwest side of Kingston called Cataraqui is the original site that the French settled in 1673. As a result you see many buildings that are hundreds of years old and some are still made of limestone! There is a lot of history in this old town.

We took a trip to my eye doctor in Kingston (about 1 hour east) to pick up my new bifocal contact lenses. I have been dealing with this doctor for over 10 years and he ships all over the world to his clients who have moved. He is very thorough and up to date with all the new technology with contacts and glasses. Well worth the visit to see him. On our way back we travelled over one of the many bridges (this one on Highway 49) that links Prince Edward County with mainland Ontario. We caught a photo of the north east section of the County as we crossed the Bay of Quinte (the portion of Lake Ontario that wraps around the County). Hope you enjoyed your little Canadian history lesson – bye for now, Peter & Connie
