Lawrie and Joanne arrived Sunday evening on the way back from their cruise and stayed with us until Tuesday. Monday we went to Los Algodones, Mexico. Lawrie wanted to pick up a couple of blankets for his daughter and John wanted to get a haircut. Now the haircuts in Mexico fit right in with John’s budget, only $3.00 which he figures is a good price for the amount of hair he has.
Tuesday was laundry day and a couple of hikes around the RV Park. Tuesday evening we went over to Westwinds RV Park for a visit with Dale and Jo Leflar from Bengough.
On Wednesday morning we were supposed to golf but decided to sleep in instead missing the golf. The rest of the day was spent relaxing around the 5er.
Thursday we took an excursion to the Imperial Dunes that are located west of Yuma across the border in California. The sand dunes run for miles on the western side of the Imperial Valley and are a popular recreation site for ATV’s, dune buggies and four wheelers. From there we continued west into the Imperial Valley of California. We were disappointed that we did not see a lot of vegetable production on the irrigated farm land. Most of the farm land was producing hay for the feedlots and dairies in the area.
Friday we made our last trip to the Yuma Market and Swap Meet as next week we will be moving onto Tucson for a month. We picked up a few items of clothing that were good buys. In the afternoon we enjoyed a pitcher of beer and several dances at the weekly happy hour that they hold at our RV Park.
Saturday morning we hiked into the foothills just to the east of the RV Park. We climbed a couple of small mountain peaks and then came back to the 5er. In the evening we attended a music concert by Frank `The Chief Durocher who hails from Rocky Mountain House, AB. His performance was a good mix of gospel music and cute jokes about seniors and First Nations People. One of the members of his band was 17 year old Jonathan Candler who although he is blind fellow has a natural talent for playing several instruments but has focussed mainly on the steel guitar. Jonathan did several solos during the evening showcasing his skill.
Sunday was a quite day at the 5er. After doing the hour long walk around the RV Park, we watched the movie Tombstone and basically just relaxed for the day. We wanted to refresh our memories about the Tombstone story as we will be visiting there sometime during the next month after we relocate to the RV Park in Tucson on Feb. 19th. Part of the Tombstone movie was shot at the old Tucson movie studio which we will also be visiting while we are in staying in Tucson.
