Well, what a day! Not all in the good sense of the phrase either. Met up with the two girls from the Night Safari and went for a Singapore Sling at The Long Bar in the Raffles Hotel - not cheap but well worth it for the novelty. I have kept the beer mat! I thought it was great that there were massive bowls of monkey nuts on all the tables and the casings were just strewn all over the floor. I was half expecting to see a little monkey in a red bellboy costume sporting a matching hat! The three of us then spent the day just chilling out by the Espenade music hall in the shade at the riverfront. It was all rather civilised and relaxing. We then went to the Raffles City shopping mall and I ended up buying a hat to keep the heat off my head. We also had some Thai food - I needed a change from McDonalds! I'm still pinkish but it is getting better. Now having to ignore the massive mozzie bite on my right elbow - of all the places to bite me, surely this isn't the juiciest! Anyway, my elbow is currently twice the size it once was. Got back to the hostel about 6pm, had a shower etc and sorted my stuff out. I have to get the train at 5.30am tomorrow, which means being up by 4am to check out and flag down a taxi. Going through passport control is going to be interesting at the Malaysian side! The Germans have left, although a wake up call by them rolling in pissed at 4am tomorrow morning would have been appreciated. Instead I am now sharing with a Chinese bloke that looks a little like Wack Jacko - disturbing (I am thankful I am not a young boy) and an Auzzie bloke Joel who has literally just walked in the door - say hello to Joel! He's the only guy that's bothered to be friendly and say hello out of all these guests here. There are loads of English people and an annoying Irish bird who will only talk Gaelic when I'm around for some reason. Ah well, I'm outta here tomorrow. Booked my train also - good job I checked. I didn't realise you had to book in advance, there were only 7 seats left on the train and its a biggie tomorrow - 10 hours. I decided to give visting Gemas the flick and am heading straight for Gua Musang in Malaysia instead, I'd rather use the extra day for the beaches in Thailand. The torture was trying to book a room there. Fortunately, the guy running the hostel tonight speaks Malaysian and after my calls were unsuccessful due to still having a shoddy ear and not really understanding the guy on the other end of the phone, he called for me and sorted it all out. THANK YOU GUY ON RECEPTION FOR THE 10th TIME! I'm staying for just one night in Gua Musang then training it again to Wakaf Bharu (Khota Baru) - this leg will only be 4 hours fortunately. I again decided to throw caution to the wind and have booked a £65 per night room in a Renaissance hotel - that will be my next opportunity for email I think! I've had enough of the trains already (I know I haven't even been on one yet), so have decided I'm going to catch a flight from Khota Baru to Kulala Lumpur, it is only an hour, rather than an overnight sleeper train and it only cost me £60 too! (Mum, I sent you an email about my credit card bill - add this on to it!). I'll be sorting out hotels for KL at Renaissance Hotel where I can get t'internet. Anyway, best be off, it is 11.20 here, got to be up in 4.5 hours! Need to try and be quiet too. If only Joel had turned up yesterday, we could have had an interesting conversation over a pint in the bar downstairs. Ah well, his loss!
