So... it was very windy on the road today. Turns out that there was a tornado ahead of us yesterday near Dryden, Ontario that did a lot of damage. I think we were driving in the wake of that storm and let's just say the rest stop football tosses were out of control. The good news is that we had blue skies all day. James continues to impress me with his driving. Joel is stuck in the back seat a lot and trying to sleep as much as possible.
We're enjoying the Narnia audio book that Candice lent us, as well as Stewart McLean's comedy. We heard a great interview on the CBC radio yesterday with Dave Carroll from Nova Scotia. He is a country singer, and he wrote a song called "United Breaks Guitars". Check it out on Youtube. He tells the story in the music video. We've adopted the chorus as our Road Trip theme song.
We had a long day today because we (I) made the decision to go back to the Royal Canadian Mint to take the 30 minute tour before we left Winnipeg. The previous day, we missed the tour by ten minutes..... I'm glad we did the tour this morning (see photos), but with another one hour time change and not getting away until 10 am this morning, we arrived in Thunder Bay at 8 pm and hadn't eaten dinner yet.
We visited the Terry Fox Memorial on the outskirts of Thunder Bay. It is really beautiful and overlooks a gorgeous view of Lake Superior. I don't think the photos do it justice.
Tomorrow will be another adventure as we attempt to get as close to the ferry terminal on Georgian Bay as we can. That will mean somewhere between a 9 and a 12 hour driving day. We'll see how long Joel can last in the back seat !!!! Poor kid.
Next post will be in a couple of days from the Lambkins home in Guelph !
