Today we left Montreal for Ottawa. Our goal was to make the 2 hour trip in time for the 10:00 am changing of the guard on the front lawn of the Parliament buildings. We managed to get street parking a few blocks from Parliament hill, and we made it with 5 minutes to spare. A warm, sunny day to watch the 25 minute ceremony. After all the history we have reviewed on this trip, the statues and significance of what we saw in Ottawa was meaningful. Not to mention the fabulous army band which is comprised of professional musicians and is one of the best brass bands you'll ever hear on parade. Excellent piccolo solos I must say !
We toured the Parliament grounds, and then headed to the War Museum which was about a five minute drive away. This is a new museum completed a few years ago. It really was fantastic, and we spent about an hour and a half touring the museum. We could've spent all day, but we had the 5 hour drive ahead of us, and we wanted to get into Sudbury before dark.
An awesome storm as we left Ottawa... not sure our camera captured it, but at least it was only about a 30 minute downpour and then we had sunshine - thankfully ! A warm day of 27 degrees again today. We pulled into Sudbury at 8 pm.
On to Thunder Bay tomorrow after we visit the largest mini golf course (54 holes) in North America just outside of Sudbury (according to Lonely Planet). We are going to check it out at 8:00 am tomorrow before we hit the road.
