Day 22
When we touched down in New York it felt like a big adventure was about to happen. We didn't land in JFK we landed in Laguardia which is a much smaller airport compared to JFK. We collected our baggage and then we went outside and caught a taxi to where we were staying. We stayed on 504 Grand st which is a block of apartments. We went inside and put all of our thing in our rooms and then we thought of what we were going to do. We thought of going to the Statue of Liberty so we went on a bus to the Staten Island ferry where we got on the ferry for free. On the ferry we went straight past the Statue of Liberty. When we got to Staten Island we had to catch another ferry back to the city.
We caught another bus and that took us just outside the apartments. We went across the road to get some take away, luckily there was a Spanish restaurant. We got back to our apartment had our dinner and went to bed.
Day 23
We were staying in the Lower East part of Manhattan Island, New York and today we arranged for a guide to meet up with us and show us the the city. We had to be outside our apartment by 9am to meet her. We met her in the courtyard of the apartment her name was Andrea. We were walking down the street and she showed us "The doughnut plant" she said they were the best doughnuts in New York. The business started off by a man delivering doughnuts and very quickly came popular. The man then used his earning to open a store. We also went a few Jewish bakeries where they made Kosher food. She was also trying to make it an experience for me so she took us into the best sweet store it had everything every sweet from one side of the world to the other, although we asked for a cherry ripe because they're aussie and he didn't have them. We stopped at Kaatz deli where lots of famous people had been of course we didn't have anything because the amount that was in the dishes was ridiculous. We went through lots of little streets and the information she was telling us was amazing. She was telling us where Bob Dylan played and where he lived and where Heath Ledger lived and died. Apparently heath Ledger dressed very casual so he wouldn't be recognized. We stopped at washing ton square and took a picture throught the arch with the empire state building at the back. Finally we went to the 2nd best pizza place in New York It was great, we had one pizza to share between the four of us then we worked our way back home. I couldn't help but remember the Apple store in Soho, it was all made of glass and it had every apple software there it was amazing. We then had to say goodbye to Andrea and then we went home and had a good sleep.
Day 24
I knew today was going to be fun beacuse we were going to time square. We caught a train into time square where mum and i had a look around the city while dad went for a meeting. Mum and i went and took a look at the Empire state buildidng which was once the tallest building in the world. Mum and i were looking in shops waiting for dad to come back from his meeting but when we were waiting we had some lunch. Before we knew it it was time to go and meet dad. We were going to MOMA which is an abreviation Museum Of Modern Art. There was some amazing things at the museum the pieces of art were well thought out. There was one art piece which we have a picture of it is the one of me pointing at what appears to be black squiggles but actually it's lots of peoples names, anyone can ask to have their name on the wall. So when you stand back from the wall it looks like black paint across the room. Mum and dad were very greatful that i went but in the end it was alright. WHen we where walking back from the art gallery we got tickets to go to mum's favourite thearte presentation (West Side Story) on Broadway. Mum was very excited but we had the last three tickets which were right at the top of the theartre in the gods.
We were meeting dad's friend for dinner in Brooklyn so we had to leave. We went back to the apartment and left all the things we didn't need there. Then we caught a taxi to Chris' house. We met his friends and his family and we sat down to dinner. After dinner i played with chris' little boy Alfie, Alfie wanted to go upstairs with the parents. Chris ordered a taxi for his friends and mum, dad and i. In the meen time we said good-bye to chris and his family.
The taxi was huge, i nearly fell asleep on the way back but Stewart started talking to me so i didn't. We got out of the taxi and then we went back to our apartment. When we got into our apartment i went to bed.
Day 25
We had plan of going for a walk into central park before we went to the thearte, so we had to catch another train into the city. We caught a train and we thought all was good until we went past one, two, three, four, five, six, seven stations, it was an express train. We got off on the first stop which was 148st when we where supposed to get of at 72 street. So we had to catch another train back to seventy two which was not much fun at all. When we got off the train and onto the road we saw John Lennon's House (John Lennon was in the beatles). We walked into Central Park an i started to worry about the time because i thought we were going to miss West Side Story and i really wanted to go and i knew how upset mum would be if we missed it. We just kept on walking and i was getting more worried and more worried as the time went on. In the end just as i thought we found our self sprinting to the theartre. There was one stage when mum said we were going to miss it that just made me even more worried. We had to stop and get some take away lunch. So we were running with our food to the theartre. We just made it, it was a great feeling. We went to our seats and considoring they were the last three seats they weren't as bad as i thought. The show started and it was just amazing mum was just so happy that we got there. It was one of the best Broadway shows ever.
After the show mum thanked us for going.
We went up a building which is taller than the Empire State Building. Mum had to stay inside whilst dad and i went outside. We were looking down from the top of the building and just was suddenly struck how tall we were. When we came down we went to the Disney shop and the Nike store which were both huge. I was going to get something there but i didn't feel like spending my money so i didn't. We came home and had a Spanish meal then went to bed.
Day 26
Today we were going to Harlem to see a famous gospel choir.
So we caught another train into Harlem where it was an easy walk to the church that we were going to. When we got there we realised that you couldn't wear shorts so dad was in trouble for that one. Then we started to walk down the street and we saw the line to go into the church must of been 4 or 5 hours long. We went into another church and listened to another choir. When we came out dad wanted to go to the Apollo theatre where lots and lots of great singers and bands had played.
They had a memorial for Michael Jackson he and his brothers sang there. They had paintings, flowers, and stalls of clothing and badges all to do with Michael Jackson. I got a shirt from one of the stalls.
We then went to little Italy where we had lunch.
We had to leave because had to get to the airport to catch our flight. We had to wait a very long time for our flight because we were so early. Eventually we caught our plain but it felt like had been on already because we were sitting in the gate for two and a half hours. It was only a quick flight to Washington but we had to be quick getting to the gate because the plane was leaving in fifteen minutes. When we were running to the gate we took a photo of me with the Obama's. Luckily we got to the gate just in time to go on another plane to England.
