There wasn’t going to be an easy way for us to get from Las Vegas to Yosemite National Park so in the end we decided to just hire a car and drive. Plus we did want to see Death Valley and driving was going to be the only way to do it. So we hired a car and off we set on our drive into one of the hottest places on earth.
As soon as we left Vegas I said to Willy, we have to stop as soon as we see a big cactus so I can get a photo, but disappointingly the cactus’ I was thinking of don’t grow in this area
The drive through the desert was amazing, all the different colours and mountain ranges, the pictures don’t do it justice. On our way through Death Valley we stopped off at the ‘lowest point in the western hemisphere’ Bad Water. It is a lake 412 ft below sea level though there was not much water in it at the moment! We then took a scenic route though a place called Artists Palette which one again the photos don’t do all the different colours of the desert justice. We then come across some sand dunes, which I really didn’t expect in the rocky landscape but they were really cool.
After a long day driving we arrived in Lone Pine, just out of Death Valley where we camped over night in our new and improved tent! A slight upgrade on our Iceland tent, complete with an airbed. It was a really nice campground at the edge of the desert and the mountains, with some really cool rock formations. The next day we continued on to Yosemite.
