Up early for flight to Heho, Naing Naing came to say goodbye and little buggar gave us a beautiful lacquerware tray, it is so nice. Taxi from Golden Lily waiting to take us to Kalaw after we arrived in Heho. Heho is a funny little airport nurses dressed in very old fashioned nurses costumes wanting to take our temps, no idea what would happen if they were too high. Very good scenery up the mountains to Kalaw. Miss Lily greeted us with a bouquet of flowers each. Saw Mr Robin and gave him the gifts we had bought from Mike in Melbourne. He was, I think very shy, but loved them. He took us to his house for dinner, being Indian and his wife Burmese it was a good mix of flavours, we really couldn't do the little tiny chickens again tho. Decided as we went to sleep with Monks chanting thru a microphone, and dogs barking at all hours of the night and the blocked dunny, that it was time to leave Kalaw. So next morning in the taxi, down the mountains again, dropped into Heho Market, which was very different, and quite out there, and to Inle Lake, well the town is called Nyaung Shwe, caught a boat and took 45 min ride to Golden Island Cottages. Wow, met on the steps of the resort by people playing drums to drum us in. The Cottages are fantastic, very private, but........ absolutely nothing to do. As I type this, I have no idea if the rest of the world has blown up and only Burma has survived.
Spent two nights there, yesterday we shared a boat with a Danish Couple, the only other people at the resort and went on an amazing day trip by boat to a place not many people get to go to. Called Sankar, only opened up in 2003 to foreigners.
Went to a local market and really, this one was incredible. Locals drive their bullocks or row their boats, walking thru mud and bullock dung, just amazing, I have great pics.
a little girl about 3 years old saw us and started freaking, she had never seen a white person before, and must have thought we were ghosts. Quite funny.
Anyway we are back in Nyaung Shwe and have a telly in our room so will be able to see CNN tonight, staying 2 nights here then heading to Yangon. Got lots more to tell you all, but quite stuffed after walking miles in the heat to this internet place, that according to everyone you ask is about 5 mins, 10 mins or 2 mins walk away, more like 20 mins in the sun.
Thanks for the messages, will write more when I get to Yangon and stay in the Park Royal and have a bit of luxury.
