Hi all, was a bit slap dash yesterday, it was so hot walking to here, and as per usual we got lost heaps of times. So will try and update a bit more and hopefully not repeat myself from other entries.
The boat trip was really amazing the Danish Couple were funny, Pete nicknamed the guy The Great White Hunter, as he was telling us of his hunting trips around the world, bit of a Lucky Star really. I asked if he had a bear rug in his house, haha, no he has an entire stuffed bear he killed. Bloody bizarre. The market is still in my mind as I just looked at the camera and saw some great pics I took. Just imagine somewhere like Central Market, with Bullocks and carts out the front and people selling everything you may or may not imagine, pig bits, and a big bowl of pig livers, noice. Chemist stuff, everything for colds, aches etc. and even the contraception pill without prescription. Bottles of local whisky, so potent that you could light it on a spoon. Really great stuff.
The hotel we are staying at here, is very lovely, the guy who runs it is an avid orchid grower, and has many pots of flowering orchids. We had a feed last night and went to bed and watched CNN and found out the world is still the same. Just 4 days without any news is a bit freaky and not easy to get used of if you are a news head like me. found a grocery shop that sold grog and bought a big bottle of british vodka for 9000kyat which is $9US. Pretty rough stuff, I had a few drinks with orange cordial last night.
Hired some pushies this morning, cost us $1 for the day, pretty primitive, haven't fallen off yet, but sort of come unstuck going over a bridge. Last time we rode bikes was in 2001 in Vietnam and rode them all day around Hue. Interesting to see how we make it up the flight of stairs to our rooms tonight. This town can be ridden around in 15 minutes, and unless you are going to do a boat trip to Inle Lake not a lot to do. So we are going to have some lunch and go to our room and maybe read or watch a movie on the telly. Heading back to Heho airport tomorrow for flight to Yangon, which will be a bit of a cultural shock cos its pretty hectic there. Need to get some photos developed for a quarter of the price of what it will cost in Singapore or Australia.
Cheers for now..
