Grandfalls NL....
The rest overnight stop on our journey to St.John's. This was a very pleasant surprise!! The area is beautiful. Tons of lakes (ponds as the Newfoundlanders call them). Our days journey ended in the early PM. Lots of great hiking along the Exploits River near our campground (Sanger Memorial RV Park). After a half hour of walking the trails along the river and climbing rocks..there it was GrandFalls in all its glory. Near by was a large almost abandoned pulp and paper mill now closed after generations of families worked and lived in this small company town. Fishing and lumbering industry disappearing!! Sound familiar. Our tour of the Salmon Enhancement station was very interesting. Lots to learn about the Atlantic salmon! We took advantage of their little restaurant.
Great fish and chips and salmon steak topped off with a newfie side dish, blueberry duff. The centre was in the process of closing for the season. We timed this one right. Great people!!
