The last section of the Savannah Way we found to be featureless and the landscape very flat and semi desert for much of the way.
From the approach road to Broome we could see that this is a town evolving into a modern centre, with an airport, shopping malls and new housing areas. Broome still has a very Asian feel to it with its Chinatown shops and alleys and the older style housing.
However as we found our way to Roebuck Bay and the caravan park, it was the colour of the sea which really took our breath away. The turquoise water is so beautiful and such a contrast against the red cliffs around Roebuck Bay.
We were fortunate to be given a waterfront site in the van park and so every day we could look out at this amazing turquoise water. We stayed in Broome for four nights so plenty of time for photographs. We visited the famous Cable Beach which is 22 km long and very popular with tourists and the many backpackers who come here. The view looking north to Cable Beach from the lighthouse at Gantheaume Point was amazing. There are plenty of activities and tours for tourists and several shops selling the famous Broome Pearls. Two of the old pearl luggers are on show and tourists can take cruises on one of the pearl luggers. The pearl industry today is carried on by a few pearl farms in the area and tours can be arranged to these. However we decided to take it easy and spent most of our time admiring the beautiful view from our site.
Soon it was time to leave for the trip south towards Port Hedland
