(Ron Writing) We left our very nice free campground in St-Ambroise. We first drove to Alma because our tourist booklet told us that tours of the very large aluminum smelter were available there. We stopped at the tourist information office in Alma and found that those tourS ended for the season a couple weeks ago.
From Alma we drove back to Chicoutimi on Highways 169 and 170 and then south on 175. Highway 175 is a scenic route through the heart of the very large Faunique des Laurentides forest reserve and the Jacques-Cartier National Park. This was a beautiful drive through the mountains mostly at around 2,000 to 3,000 feet elevation. All along this route we saw beautiful fall colors mixed in with the conifers.
We had a few periods of sunshine but most of the time it was very cloudy and much of the time it was raining.
By late afternoon we arrived in Quebec City. We are staying at the Camping Un Air D'Ete RV Park in Pont Rouge, a few miles west of Quebec City. This park gives a 50% discount to Passport America members on weekdays. The full rate is $28 Canadian with full hook-ups and WiFi. This is only the second stop since we left Arizona in early April where we have had full hook-ups.
