Space truckin’ time…..

After a good night’s sleep it is time to pick up our ride/ home for our NZ adventure. We have made arraignments to ride in a Spaceship for the next 28 days. AJ is officially (according to the paperwork) Astronaut #1 and Beth is #2. This thing rocks. GPS. Maps. We can play the Ipod. It has a double bed with bedding, cooking gear. What more could you ask for.

OK, now that we have been driving around town, on the left side of the road in a vehicle that we are not familiar with, we have discovered a few issues….. The GPS takes a special 3 year college degree to be able to operate. The maps we were given aren’t quite as detailed as we apparently need. Yup you guessed it, we got ourselves in a bit of a navigational dilemma. The roads through and around Auckland are like no other we have experienced. They seem to run in every conceivable direction and are not well signed.

The main issue was the camp site at Piha (on the west coast) we had planned to spend the night was closed. We arrived there as the sun was setting. Stunning by the way. Then we had to make our way back to town, in the dark to find a new place to spend the night. Found one of the weirdest places… a campground/trailer park in the middle of a residential area. It was an easy set up to get ready for bed. Night night.
