North sounds like a great direction to travel, so off we head! After afew hours of driving the GPS is starting to make some sense to us and the new map books we purchased have helped with our navigating. We drove thru Whangarie along the scenic east coast road and stopped at a park for lunch. It happened to be a rowing club’s race day, so we were treated to rowing races and young people in skimpy bathing suits.
We camped in another of the DOC sites along the coast (the people at the gate always seem happy to see someone). Our site was next to the ocean, with a spectacular view. It’s amazing but we were only one of four sites being used in the whole place. We decided to try out the awning for the first time. It works great for cooking under, but must be taken down at 3:00am in the morning when the wind and rain kick into high gear!
