Grand Palace, Bangkok, just after a tropical storm, hence the rolled up...

So, here we are in Bangkok at last! This is our third day, as we lost a bit of time (well, fifteen hours to be precise, because we went to sleep on our first night and did not wake up until after lunch the next day!). So, not only are we backpacking our way round, like teenagers, but we have also reverted to teenage sleeping habits!!!

Bangkok is unique in so many ways - where else can you walk 25 yards down the street and absorb smells varying from the most wonderful(e.g. spices and incense), through the whole spectrum, eg foods, etc, right down to the downright obnoxious (I won't bother with an example!).

So far have been doing the touristy things, like temples, China town, river trip and taking death defying rides on tuc tucs. It has also been great fun speaking to some locals, who are lovely people, for example, today in a silk shop, we spent some money (not a huge amount) and the repartee with the shop owner was so good and jokey, that next thing was she made us a coffee and we were swapping e mail addresses!

We also visited a Thai tailor (who was recommended by another local to whom we chatted, with nothing in it for her!) and ordered our outfits for Dawn and Stuart's wedding. We go tomorrow for fittings and then they will ship them home for us.

So, as you can tell, we are off to a great start on our adventure!
