Where in the world........ travel blog

What a great city! Everywhere you go you run into a fountain, statue, church, ancient building and History History History. We stayed in the Heart of Rome, a few minutes walk from the Trevi Fountain and found it easy to get to all the sights. Our first day we went to see the Trevi Fountain, The Coliseum, the ruins, the Pantheon, and Piazza Rebublica, where we sat and had a cappuccino and played cards for a couple of hours. The weather during our stay was gorgeous, at least 20 and sunny everyday ( sorry to those that are freezing in Montreal ). I was so impressed with this city, again the people are so friendly, food is affordable and so was our stay. However, our accommodations were a dorm with 8 other people, one whom had a SERIOUS snoring problem and 3 deaf guys who clearly had NO idea how loud they were being EVERYDAY at 6am when they go up to leave. I vow NEVER to stay in a dorm again! Anyhoots, back to Rome......Our second day was more sightseeing, which included the Spanish steps, Piazza del Popolo, the courthouse, San Angelo castle and after ALL that walking we hiked up the mountain to a park that overlooked Rome, where we both had a bottle of wine and read after a long 2 days of sightseeing. Even there parks are historic and beautiful...ruins, statues and fountains everywhere. The wine may have improved my opinion as well ;)

Our last day was spent at the Vatican museum and St Peters Square. Because we had a train to catch to Florence we only had about 2 hours in the Museum. We managed to see the Sistine Chapel and a few other wings but it is so large you'd need at least a whole day to see it all. We happened to be there on a Sunday so the square was packed as there was Sunday Mass. It was a interesting experience. Anyhoots, I will try to update more often...only 1 week left in Europe. Time is flying!
