Keith and Joan's Trip Down Under 2009 travel blog

Mount Cook and Lake Pukaki

We decided to make the journey north on one go so Sunday was spent traveling right to Havelock which is just a few miles from the Picton Ferry.

We took time to have plenty of stops and admire the scenery. We avoided the Cantabury Plains this time and took the scenic road through the foothills. Slower but much more interesting. Stopped off for green lipped mussels once we got north of Christchurch and saw the seals again near Kaikoura.

Got to Havelock in the mid evening. A tiny port which is the home of the green lipped mussel. Sea food cheap and plentiful!
