We arrived here yesterday and I have had a very good first impression of the City. We are staying at Tia Linda's house in the centre of Luanda. ... The house is lovely and in this blistering heat, the air con is a saviour! After 4 eventful days in Luanda we headed off along the coast towards Lubango. ... After passing through the large cities of Lobito and Benguela,we started to wind our way up through the mountains to Lubango. ... Finally after 5 days we entered Lubango and were grateful to be off the truck for a few days. ... Lubango is famous for the statue of jesus that sits upon the escarpment that surrounds the town. ... Thats what we have for ourselves in the lovley lovely town of Lubango in Southern Angola where we are gaining some respite from the sh1te potholed strewn road south from Luanda. ... We finally arrived in Luanda where we were to spend a few days while Chris repaired the truck after a spring had cracked from the constant battering the roads had given us. ... Luanda itself was a beautifully situated city with a natural harbour and a 3km long promenade,although there was the usual shanty towns on the outskirts. ...

Sunny Cabinda,Angola's main oil producing province,was the next stop on the journey southwards. ... Driving from Point Noire to the border with Cabinda was uneventful apart from the rather large storm that was threatening to blow the truck over. ... Crossing the border into Cabinda was hassle free with the only problem being the torrential rain which had now set in for the day. ... Cabinda province itself was much the same as the rest of Central Africa,luscious green thick rainforest and no infrastructure at all except in the main population centres. ... We entered Cabinda town itself in darkness but this provided a visual spectacle which wouldn't have been apparent during daylight hours. ...
