Sep 28, 2008 - North Queensland - Daintree Barra Farm & Great Barrier Reef
We had arranged with Jane of Daintree Barra Farm to be picked up at 4pm from our hostel (Parrotfish Lodge – a beach version of the Pink House). ... The Peug lives across the Daintree River (therefore avoiding the track access). ... We saw two crocodiles lurking on the riverbank and visited Daintree village where we had lunch of crocodile, barramundi and kangaroo with chips (the potato was a luxury as there is none here only taro!) On our penultimate day, we went into Mossman – the nearest town with a supermarket and bottle shop (off-licence). ...

Certainly impressed the staff when we got there! “The Daintree Rainforest” itself encompasses approximately 1,200 square kilometers. ... Patricks Day Mates!!!! Hmmmm somehow it doesn't hold the same feeling in Australia - although they do love the Irish here - maybe something about the drinking!!!! Today we went on a trip to the Daintree Rain Forest. ... But I didn't! The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest living rainforest on the planet. ... If there is one reason to come on a tour like this one it is Uta!!!! After the gorge we drive to the Daintree River where we board a boat to head up the river. ... We have to get to this area on a ferry over the Daintree River. ... This was seriously cool to see - but it also solidifies my theory that sometimes just being places brings you the experiences - not trying to make the experiences happen!! (aka tours) Then we head to the Daintree Rainforest Interpretive Centre for the floor walks and the tower climb to a tower that stands above the rainforest. ...

Jan 24, 2007 - Australia - Port Douglas & Cape Tribulation
Being in the tropical north both days and nights were terribly hot with temperatures around the 30 degrees celcius mark and 85% humidity with little or no breeze at all which made sleeping in our campervan more like a torture chamber! Back on the road but this time along the Captain Cook Highway which has a spectacular scenic coastal drive all the way to Port Douglas. We made it to Port Douglas quite early so decided to carry on up north to the town of Daintree, established as a logging town it is now known for its river cruises along the Daintree River to see wildlife and of course crocodiles. ... We then treated ourselves to a Devonshire Tea expecting it to be like the ones in the UK but not only did we get a tea bag in a mug to fill up ourselves via an old boiler but the scone was nuked in a microwave and was very doughy with squirty cream on it out of a can - scandalous! By now we were definately done with Daintree so headed a little south to the ferry crossing over to Cape Tribulation, any further and you will need a 4WD. ... We planned to drive all the way to the end of the road and then slowly make our way back stopping off everywhere.Being in the tropical north both days and nights were terribly hot with temperatures around the 30 degrees celcius mark and 85% humidity with little or no breeze at all which made sleeping in our campervan more like a torture chamber! PORT DOUGLAS - Monday 20th November to Sunday 26th November (Days 24-30) After a brief look around a still showery Cairns we caught a minibus transfer north to Port Douglas. Then on to the Daintree river for a short cruise, where the crocs decided they were going to keep their heads down and hide in the mangroves. ... We did see plenty of flying foxes though! Alexandra Bay gave great views of the Daintree river entering the sea, and we had a short tea stop at Thornton Beach. ... Next stop was the magnifient Cape Tribulation, named by Captain Cook in 1770 after his ship hit a reef - ancient forests, sandy beaches, and rugged mountains! ... Apr 18, 2005 - Far North Queensland
We landed in Cairns and were immediately a bit disappointed - we'd left Sydney in brilliant sunshine and landed here with grey skies and the occasional/frequent downpour! It was supposed to be the very end of the wet season but nobody told the weather that! The hostel we had booked was O. Before deciding to swim we were already drenched by a huge downpour - a rainforest wouldn't be a rainforest without rain! The next stop was the Daintree River in the Daintree National Park. ... North Queensland is one of the places in Oz where you find massive saltwater crocodiles - some up to 7m long, and the Daintree is a croc hotspot. ... Within 5 mins we saw our first one - a huge 5m male basking in the sun on the river bank.We landed in Cairns and were immediately a bit disappointed - we'd left Sydney in brilliant sunshine and landed here with grey skies and the occasional/frequent downpour!
