Another uneventful flight (thank goodness), and we picked up the hire car to drive the 2 hours north east of Melbourne to Beechworth (‘historic village’). ... Jenny had been on holiday about 5 hours drive away on the coast for the past week and had said that they had had cold weather and rain – don’t know when Beechworth saw its last drop! And the meat must be good as there seemed to be beef cattle everywhere. ... I had to smile as we drove along the very straight looking Great Alpine Road as the scenery is certainly the opposite of the alpine road to our ski place in the French Alps! Martin was delighted as we entered beautiful Beechworth, as we passed a sign saying ‘Home of our World Record Pole Vaulter – Emma George’ – he loves stuff like that, along with signs that sound like parts of the body etc. ... The guys (on their recce of Beechworth the evening before) recommended the Brewery which did great pizzas, and had a play area for the kids. ...
