30th July 2006 Port Hedland - Broome (620km) Although we woke at our usual time of 7am, for various reasons we didn't leave PH until 10am. ... The choices were, 80mile beach (250km from PH and 10km off the highway on an unsealed road), Port Smith (477km from PH and 26km along an unsealed road) or Broome. ... Billed as one of the most boring stretches of road in Australia, we made pretty good time and gunned it all the way to Broome. ... Current Position: Cable Beach Broome Where can you land your dinghy on a white sandy beach in the morning and wade through thick gooey mud in the afternoon? Where does all the water go? K: We stayed a luxurious 2 nights in Broome - it was great not to having drive for a while and we got to see the Indian ocean, which was an incredible shade of blue, for the first time. ... So straight up the north coast we drove to Broome. ... and there are loads of lizards 'sunbathing' on the road that we try and dodge!! Just outside Broome is Cable Beach which is 'famous' for its kilometres of white sandy beach and its picture postcard sunsets. ... In peak season you can take a camel ride on the beach at sunset - so we didn't even see that! We stayed at a caravan park in Broome right on the beach and near Mangroves and you couldn't swim at this particular beach because of 'stingers'. ...

Tripping 2005/06

Nov 14, 2005 - Broome

Monday was spent driving towards Broome and reading 'Teeth of the Tiger' by Tom Clancy. ... Boab trees can be pretty huge and look almost swollen - there is even one in Derby with a girth of 14m and hollow trunk which was used as a prison! In Broome we headed straight to Cable Beach to watch the sunset - it's lovely to be back by the coast, feel the sea breeze, the sand between my toes and the warm surf. ... No flies here either - HOORAH! It's a much more comfortable temperature here in the evening.Monday was spent driving towards Broome and reading 'Teeth of the Tiger' by Tom Clancy. ...
