Sat 13/11 HOT! He he!!! Fly down to Perth today - Darwin is nice, but I'll be sooo glad to stop sweating! REMEMBER - DON'T DO DARWIN IN THE WET SEASON!! I fly at 2. ... Hoorah!!! In Perth - it's a pleasant 25 degrees & breezy! There's lots of parkland and river as you come into the city, which looks very modern, but in parts they've tried to capture an older look, so it looks a bit fake - sort of like a film set. ... What a small world!!!! He says hello to all you Old Maltonites who remember him, with a special mention for the Pickerings - especially Gav! Had a couple of beers with them, and left them to it when the Spurs v Arsenal match startd!!! I'd forgotten Steve was even in Oz - & had no idea he was in Perth!!! Sun 14/11 Warm Up at 7am after a VERY restless night, lots of activity in the Hostel, and in one of the bunks in my dorm, and from some birds scratching about on the tin roof!!! Went for a walk around the city, it really is a beautiful place - I think rather than the buildings being modern that they are actually old, but are just wonderfully clean & cared or. ... Sunday afternoon is traditionally a drinking session in Freo & Perth, but I'm staying away - too bloody expensive!! Got back to Northbridge, and booked my trip up the coast as far as Exmouth - hoorah!! Went for a wee siesta, to be told Steve had rung earlier! Bugger! Typical bloke - no message, no phone number!!! Oh well, such is life! Went to the Mustang Bar tonight, where there was a 'cowboy' type band on - wicked!! Loads of dancers - all serious stuff (Barb & Chris you would have loved it). ...

I arrived in Perth mid July and ended up staying there, or at least being based there, until Christmas, so there is a lot to write about during this time. ... We got ourselves a room at a backpackers in Northbridge, Perth. ... I was fairly happy about this as I prefer driving to being a passenger, though very nervous about hitching up the donga and driving this truck through Perth city before hitting the open roads. ... They were run of the mill guys, with families and homes back in Perth. ... At the end of the north run there was to be the Perth Royal Show and then the south run, then a few small shows around Perth city in the 2 weeks leading up to christmas. ...

Big Fat Trip

Dec 23, 2003 - Arrival in Perth, Australia!

Arrived in Perth at 1am and were greeted by Perth's friendliest taxi driver. ... 30am, experts on Perth! After booking the hotel by accident it turns out we are in one of the nicest hotels in Western Australia, 4 star with every facility imaginable. ... We are going to fit right in with our hand washed, misshapen clothes! Because of the late night we had a lazy day looking around the town of Fremantle, which is a really nice town, and lazing by the pool.Arrived in Perth at 1am and were greeted by Perth's friendliest taxi driver. ... 30am, experts on Perth!   In the three weeks since we flew into Perth, we've driven nearly four thousand KMs, seen enough outback and dead kangaroos on the side of roads to last a lifetime, and have been quietly settling into our new travelling home and the daily routines that accompany it. ...   Perth was another city that grew on us gradually, but only up to a certain point. ... It's the more than slightly depressing side of the whole British traveller phenomenon that we'd largely avoided so far, but that seems to be prevalent all over Perth. ...
