I had to leave there rather quickly as the mosquitoes seemed to come out to watch the bore as well… From there it was back northeast up through Tatamagouche and Malagash and on to Pugwash (love these maritime town names!). ... Incidentally, the area has the distinction of having the first salt mine in Canada (very important for the fishing industry pre-refrigeration)and Pugwash is also the site of the "Thinker's Lodge" built by home town millionaire industrialist Cyrus Eaton. ... Those efforts were eventually awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (to the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs and nuclear scientist Joseph Rotblat, one of the organizing attendees who had resigned from his work on the Manhattan Project over ethical concerns). ...
