A good twenty hours of traveling by train and bus brought me from the arid Yellow River down into the Yangtze basin. Here rises the northernmost of Anhui's great peaks, Jiuhua Shan (Nine Lotus Mountain), the earthly residence of Dizang, the Buddhist protector of the deceased and guide to the beyond. ... Jiuhua Shan was much different from Tai Shan; pilgrims here carried wicker baskets filled with incense and candles, jars filled with tea, and occasionally miniature stereo systems that emanated the soft droning of chanting monks. ... I arrived at the hostel in Huang Shan with Richard, and Aussie guy who happened to be staying at the same hostel as me in Huangzhou. ... The main draw in Huang Shan is the mountain which shares the same name, so me and Richard booked ourselves onto a bus trip to the foot of the mountain, along with an Aussie couple Julian and Ruth, and a dutch couple Jonne and Jorne. ... We walked down the Eastern steps, only an hour and 45 minutes but my calves have still not recovered two days later! The day was rounded off with an evening as we all shared an excellent meal at the Meishi Renja Chinese Restaurant in the heart of Huang Shan. ...

After a five and a half hour bus ride from Hangzhou to Tankou, a ten minute taxi ride from Tankou to the Cloud Valley Temple Cable Car, a ten minute cable car ride, and a 15 minute walk, my parents and I arrived at the top of Huang Shan, and checked into the Behai Hotel late yesterday afternoon. ... Huang Shan is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in China. ... One of the highlights of Huang Shan is the sunrise. ... For a brief period, Huang Shan showed me a facet of its beauty that has inspired painters and poets for over a thousand years. ...

As I said, the reason I am here is to go to Huang Shan, a 72 peak mountain range in Anhui Province. ... It has been a top Chinese tourist attraction for 1200 years, and inspired countless pieces of art, etc, and it is truly awesome, and the best place I have been yet in China, even though it has rained constantly for the last two days.As I said, the reason I am here is to go to Huang Shan, a 72 peak mountain range in Anhui Province. ... Anyway, another overnight hard sleeper to the city of Tunxi (2,000,000) in Anhui Province, also known as Huang Shan Shi in honour of the Huang Shan Mountain(s) about 60 kms away. ... Huang Shan and Guilin (where I go Weds) are considered by Chinese to be the two most beautiful places, and you will recognise them from your classic chinese paintings, etc. ... Just to give you a taster, I have found a couple of pics some other person in this hostel left on the desktop, I could only wish to take such good ones myself.Not a lot since last entry.
