Mellom Turpan og Dunhuang var vi saa heldig aa treffe en kasakstaner som vi delte taxi med da vi ankom sent paa kvelden, samt en kineser som snakket litt engelsk. ... We left the hotel in Dunhuang at 5 am for the airport. Anyhow, made it safely to Lanzhou, met our tour guide, Lily, and traveled another 2 hours to the San Xia Dam, which is on the Yellow river and forms a large reservoir. ... I've arrived in Dunhuang and once again it seems like I'm the only foreigner in town. ... There are two main draws of Dunhuang - the Mogao Caves and their buddist artwork, and the huge sand dunes nearby. ... Its taken 33 hours with very little sleep to get here and I arrived at 4. Jiayuguan has a large fort on its outskirts beyond which was once considered China's wild west, with nothing but desert and the Central Asian hordes. ... A long (615km) dusty day with 180km of roadworks. We have a satellite navigation box in the car and this confirmed that we wer heading in approximately the right direction, so we stuck with it and sure enough found ourselves heading for Jiayuguan. ...
