We finished our boat cruise in Lichang where we spent the night before boarding an overnight train the next day headed to Liuzhou before a bus trip to the picturesque town of Yangshuo. ... The train trip was forgotten as soon as we arrived in Yangshuo - what a beautiful area. ... The first day in Yangshuo was the most tiring and hot i've had in China. ... From this point, the map suggested that it was a 1 or 2 hour walk back to Yangshuo so we set off and turned down a Y40 offer of a lift back [i think i would have just paid]. ... In the end Yangshuo was miles away and it was, again, fortunate that as darkness fell a taxi heading back to Yangshuo stopped and asked for Y5 each to take us back. ... So in the end i opted against the rice terraces and spent another night in Yangshuo. ...

The train journey from Hangzhou to Guilin was actually pretty bearable, within my section there was a student who spoke okay english and we spoke for sometime. ... So overall the train journy was fine, although instead of doing another 20 hour trip from Guilin to Kunming i've opted to fly. ... Yesterday in Guilin i met some very nice French-Canadians (one of which enjoyed 'hot beer'??) so i ended up heading out into Guilin with them for the day and evening. ... Guilin is pretty dull, many Chinese people rave about it but so far it seems like any other city only with the added bonus of fairly bad double pricing [local/tourist] and people on coaches screaming "Yangshuo?!" at you as you walk around. ... The second day in Guilin was slightly more interesting, i met a German/Spanish woman who was very nice. ...

De Hong Kong nos fuimos en metro a la frontera con ShenZhen, una de las ciudades comercialmente más poderosas de China. Llegamos a Yangshuo muy temprano por la mañana del día siguiente y desgraciadamente pasó lloviendo todo el día. ... No pudimos ver mucho de las montañas y menos dar un paseo en barco por el río.De Hong Kong nos fuimos en metro a la frontera con ShenZhen, una de las ciudades comercialmente más poderosas de China. We arrived at 6:00 AM, and were greeted with a sunrise showing us amazing scenery! The karst mountains here are not just in a patch or two, but everywhere! The train arrived first into Guilin, that seemed a bit too big and bothersome, so a quick bus to Yangshuo down the road brought a welcome smaller town. ... Yangshuo is seated at the confluence of the Li and Yonglu rivers, and gives great options for all sorts of activities. ... Whats up you'll I'm just kicking it here in Nanning awaiting my visa for Vietnam. The Guanxi province, home to Yangshou and Guilin is famous for the Karst limestone topography that give the hills such distinct shapes, but for hours outside of these towns the surrounding areas are filled with similar features, so the bus rides have been sick. ...
