Next day when we awoke, we were still undecided whether to go to Delphi or Olympia. ... We inquired first about a bus to Olympia and learned one was leaving within the hour, so we bought tickets and began our tour of the Peloponnesian peninsula. ... The bus ride turned into two bus rides because Olympia is a tiny place not frequented often by Greeks and since we’re traveling outside the tourist season there are not many people at all in Olympia. ... ” Each Olympiad honored the winner of the race by naming that festival after him. ... After going from Nafplio to Tripoli in the morning, being told that the next bus to Olympia didn’t leave until that night, contemplating sharing a taxi with the lovely retired couple on a three-week journey of their own, and then finally convincing the company that enough people wanted to go to Olympia to let another bus go there sooner, we arrived no worse for wear early in the evening. ... The museum, though, does a great job of bringing the site to life, and honestly, just being at the site of the Olympic games, taking a few steps on the starting line of a footrace, and seeing the Temple of the Olympian Zeus with my own eyes was an inspiring experience. ... After we picked up our bags from the lady at the grocery store, Ravi and I had an uninspiring stay at the nearest youth hostel we could find.[For pictures, see Nafplio entry. Hello from Patras! Well, its been an adventurous past few days, to say the least! Since I last posted, we spent another day in Athens exploring the Acropolis up close (along with 5000 of my closest friends :) We met some other young travelers at the hostel, mostly kids who are wrapping up their studies abroad. ... After our tour, we raced back to our hostel, picked up our bags and hopped on the train to Patras. ... We had to spend 3 hours in the terminal at Kiato last night from 10:00 to 1:00 then finally made it to our hostel in Patras at 3:00am. ... We are exploring Patras today, which is a cute little port town that is delightfully un-touristy. ...
