Just one night and one full day to explore this massive historical metropolis. After booking into Gullivers House, the homely hostel pops stayed in last time, we walked thru the streets of Rome until we 'stumbled' across the Trevi fountain, a popular place best seen in the twilight hours. ... Round the corner was the Panthenon but in the dark one can only guage its massive size and so we would have to wait till the morning to see inside.Just one night and one full day to explore this massive historical metropolis. Well, as the saying goes I guess it is inevitable that the road would lead me to Rome. ... Krakow, Stockholm, Berlin, Amsterdam, but Rome has to definitely be the new number one. ... Everything in Rome has been super-sized, and just walking between the sites is wearing my ass out. ... Everybody needs to go to Rome to see the Colosseum (among other things)! It is hard to imagine that you can walk into a stadium that is 2400 years old and visualize all the gladiator fights, battles between wild animals and mock sea battles (which they had when they flooded the Colosseum) in the same spot the ancient Romans did. ... The times they are-a- Anyways, the next spot was the Palatine Hills which is the foundation of Rome and is on a hill overlooking the city. ...

I'm glad I took the Siena break because it recharged me for Rome. ... At the bus station in Rome I couldn't figure out how to get to the budget hotel area near the train station. ... I quickly ran out of class to catch the train to Stuttgart so that night I could catch a night train to Rome. ... Although the bus was late, I made with plenty of time to the train station where I took the short trip to Stuttgart and got on a train headed for Munich, which is where the night train to Rome started from. ... After getting maybe 5 hours of sleep we arrived in Rome at 8:30 AM. ... When I got out of the train, I didn't notice anything different about Rome, except that is a very clean place. ... Someone definitely has too much time on his hands!! I am safely in Rome, and the weather has definitely improved (sod's law though as I have spent the best two days weather-wise so far on trains). ... Still, it is great to be back in Rome and I am just about to go for a stroll down to the Colosseum (I think that's how it is spelt) and the Trevi Fountain (doubt I'll see Anita Ekberg enjoying La Dolce Vita, but you never know my luck). ... The last couple of days in Florence were very wet and the rain had followed us down the A1 to Rome. ... Entering Rome wasn`t as difficult as we first thought however after missing the worlds most hidden campsite entrance we were coasting down the via Flamino into centro roma. ... We skirted around central Rome, through some strange woodlands and two hours skirting round the borders of the campsite we were there. ... Our first day in Rome we hopped on the 110 open-top bus which runs from the Terminus round all the main sights in town. ... Hello everyone, here is an update of our journey. When we left there Ned took us for a walk through Constantine Arch to the Forum and the old city of Rome, just looking and listening to Ned's commentary of history of this region was just mind boggling, however we had to move on and we walked to the Bascila St Pietro in Chains which also housed a carving of Moses sculptered by Michaelangelo. ... If you ever want to experience a hair raising trip through narrow streets, pedestrians everywhere and travelling at breakneck speed then come to Rome, I'll lend you my heart tablets to help you recover. ... The cab dropped us off not far from our destination and we walked with the thousand's of other tourists & locals checking out the restraunts in the Piazza, finally settling on one and enjoying our wonderful Italian lunch, beer and wine.Hello everyone, here is an update of our journey. We had an early start to get to Rome this morning to get into the Vatician City and Sistine Chapel as they only sell tickets until midday. ... When we got to Rome we caught the underground train into the centre of the city. ... We went to the Spanish Steps and to the Pantheon which is one of the oldest buildings in Rome it was preserved so well!! The heat was a killer though. ... I love the history and amazing buildings but I dont feel safe in Rome at all. ...

Wednesday September 1 must have been the start of the hunting season in Italy as we woke to the sound of gunshots. Anyway it ensured an early start and we headed into Rome and started at the Pantheon which was pretty incredible especially as it is over 2000 year old. ... Saturday was simply a day of travel as we drove from Rome to Venice. ...
