Left hostel before 8am hoping to avoid the rush hour on the Metro but. Less than 2 hours and great views of snow capped volcanos (2) and pretty agric countryside (again, mostly corn grown), we arrived in Puebla. ... Nice place, very quiet unlike the one in MX City, and once settled we headed out to Cholula, a town just outside Puebla where the largest pyramid (at base size) in the world is located. ... Onwards and upwards (approx 3200 m upwards - we could see the snowline above us and the terrain looked very alpine) we moved from Mexico City to somewhere a couple of hours south, on a second class bus. We arrived in Puebla yesterday, which is really quite a pretty colonial town with some beautiful buildings (although a lot of the architecture is of German influence apparently!) and a million baroque style churches. ... It is actually a three day weekend and now on Monday, the last day, people head back again to Mexico City and for that matter my destination Puebla which, to my surprise, has three million inhabitants. ... So we arrived into Mexico City.after thinking about it, we decided to get straight out of another MAJOR city and go to a little, quieter town, so hopped onto a bus to Puebla, a two hour journey. ... Puebla town is beautiful, as is most of Mexico so far. ... Although the high altitude made Oaxcaca comfortably cool during the day, we were wishing that we could have plugged in the electric blanket last night when temps went into the 40's. But Puebla, today's goal, is much higher at 7200 feet and we spent much of today's 220 mile drive climbing up. ... A major quake in 1999 did some significant damage in downtown Puebla. ...
