We left R and G at the airport for their flight back to Brisbane as we headed to Windhoek in Namibia. We spent the night at Keetmanshoop again – we were not the only important guests in town – the President of Namibia was staying as well as Robert Mugabwe – we were stopped by police to allow the Presidential motorcade go past – about 50 cars. ...

The small city of Swakopmund (25 thousand residents) was less than an hour's drive up the coast from Walvis Bay. ... We almost didn't stop here, but were so tired of driving that we had to stop for the night. Walvis Bay is a smallish (54 thousand people), seaside town big in salt production and fish processing. ... Our next campsite for the night was Spitzkoppe. From Cape Cross we traveled down the coast to Swakopmund where we spent two night in a bungalow – what a treat being out of the tent! We all went out to dinner and MS indulged in a huge plate of ribs while I had the biggest burger I have ever seen. ... From Swakopmund we traveled further into the desert and set up camp at Sesirem. ... We had a short stop at a town called Solitaire which was apatly named as all it seemed to have was a petrol station, bakery and campsite.Our next campsite for the night was Spitzkoppe. We started off in the capital Windhoek and we were surprised at how developed it was. ... Windhoek Car Hire provided us with a sturdy looking Nissan 4x4, complete with a roof tent and all the camping equipment we could possibly need. ... Not for the faint hearted!
