It is coming to an end now. The last stop of this round the world trip was a train ride to Huancayo, a city in the Peruvian Central Andes. ... May 29, 2006 - Andean highlands

People ringing the door bell at all hours of the night and then stomping around and talking at full pitch and then the freakin Israely lads deciding to play soccer in the courtyard at 3am - NOT HAPPY!! So, we are headed west for the small Peruvian highland town of Huancayo. ... The highest point on travel is some 4500m above sea level and the effects of the thinning oxygen takes it toll particularly on Lewis who complains of dizzyness, faintness and wanting to puke and he eventually slips out of consciousness for a couple of hours while we descend slightly towards Huancayo. ... We arrive in Huancayo in the early evening after I have aggonisingly held a piss for some 4 hours and I welcome the opportunity to duck behind a parked bus in the depot (hey, when in Peru. ... As we retire to bed for some welcome rest we do so with great concern that either one of us would not see the night through due to our aquired altitude sickness! Huancayo is a rather bussling and seemingly very typical peruvian town and we spot very few tourists as we walk around. ...
