I was about to bail on the whole lot of them and hop on a flight to Lima, but the prices were outrageous so we got on ANOTHER bus to Chiclayo, figuring at least there were a few interesting markets and sights to see once there, also at least shops and cafes would be open by the time we arrived. ... No buses until 7pm to Lima, so we rested, ate, and regrouped at a small café for several hours. ... Lima, apart from being a little more dangerous, it is very much like any other capital city. ... After what we had heard, we were expecting the worst from Lima but actually had a fun time. ... Lima is completely different to the rest of Peru with massive shopping malls and high rises. ... We did a little shopping, ate an all you can eat seafood buffet (I felt horrendously sick for about 5 hours for my greediness) and went on an amazing tour of the Monastery of San Francisco which has the bones of tens of thousands of people buried in the catacombs.After what we had heard, we were expecting the worst from Lima but actually had a fun time. ... hey everyonee, we just wanted to send you all a quick update telling you we will be offline for awhile now as we are leaving to mancora tomorrow, and after that our backpacking begins so we don´t know how often we´ll have internet access. All of the schools in Lima are also shut down for two weeks due to the flu, so Chiara´s brother is coming up to Mancora with us! And not to worry I don´t have the swine flu, I am already starting to feel a bit better however my stomach hasn´t taken nicely to getting a virus and I still have a pretty wicked cough. ... I am confident I will be fine though!! hey all!! our last few days have been spent at la ciudad de los ninos where we have grown close with several of the little boys there. When we look up at the millions of people in the shanty towns that cover the hills of lima, we can´t help but think of the great potential that is gone to waste because of where they are born. ...
