Oct 29, 2009 - Endlich im Dschungel! - Finally the jungle!

... ----------------------------------- When we got out of the airplane in Iquitos, it seemed like walking against a hot, humid wall. ... That's when we realized that we really are in the middle of the jungle and that from now on, we have to accept unbearable heat, 80% humidity and the hardcore sweating that results from it :-) If we found South American quite modern so far, Iquitos proofed to us that we really are in a developping country: We had hardly set foot out of the airport and were already surrounded by masses of taxi drivers and luggage porters all offering their services to us. ...

Oct 16, 2007 - Iquitos: Dr Asigbetse I presume? Finally stepping out of the jungle

Eventually we set eyes on our final destination, Iquitos. ... The port of Iquitos was huge with the row after row of river barges big and small, new to basically floating wrecks; even the Peruvian navy had got in on the act with naval barges bristling with guns. ... Jul 9, 2007 - Iquitos

Monday 9th July 2007 Arrive at the airport in good time for breakkie which was sorely needed as clearly I'm eating for two, as I seem to be a host to some sort of parasite! Good flight out of Cusco then it all went horribly wrong in Lima with a flight that moved backwards down the board for an hour and then just disappeared altogether! I went and asked if it was cancelled to which I got a 'yes, I mean no, it'll be here in an hour', not very confidence inspiring. We paid for it with some of the worst turbulence I have ever experienced, not sure if thats just normal for the mountains but I tried to sleep through it and the next thing I knew I was walking down the steps at Iquitos in the steamy heat. ... Confronted with 20 men shouting 'taxi lady' at me I involuntarily accepted the first guy who took my pack off me and the taxi turned out to be a Tuk Tuk which was hysterical.Monday 9th July 2007 Arrive at the airport in good time for breakkie which was sorely needed as clearly I'm eating for two, as I seem to be a host to some sort of parasite!
