But, there are not many more extreme changes than going from undeveloped Laos to first-world modern Singapore. ... It never occurred to me that I would love Singapore. ... We also appreciated suggestions from our friend Lisa Swaya Wilmer who took a re-con trip to Singapore for us (her company actually thought it was a business trip) last spring and sent us an email of all the things we should do. ...

Malaysian and Singapore Adventures **************************************************** Hello and welcome to our latest installment. ... At present, we are living it up in Singapore where our tour has now ended and we have transferred to a hotel where there are hot showers and proper sit-down toilets (as opposed to the squat variety). ... My two-hour flight to Singapore was on one of them: a two-class 777. ... The worst part was that I didn't even get to read my Frommer's Singapore guide book, so I entered a new country not knowing much about it. ... Under the Singapore law, the penalty for the illegal importation of controlled drugs such as heroin or morphine is death. ... I had some other goods considered "contraband" in Singapore (chewing gum for my niece and nephew, a bootleg DVD and CD that I bought at the night market, and my computer, which gets so many spam emails a day that I am sure it had some unsolicited porn). ...

Apr 29, 2004 - The last fling with a Singapore Sling
If gastronomy and retail therapy are on your list of priorities when choosing a holiday destination, then Singapore should be a definite contender. ... A modest postage stamp on the southern tip of Malaysia's envelope, what Singapore lacks in size, it more than makes up for in character and, on the surface at least, it a appears to be a truly harmonious and successful ethnic melting pot. ...
