Dec 26, 2003 - Bangkok

Bangkok is indeed one of those cities that will overwhelm the unprepared traveler. ... Our return visit was made marginally easier because of our one-night stand a month prior: we wasted no time getting to the area of Bangkok where we wanted to stay. ... After the Big Buddha, we roared off to one of the most important Buddhist temples in Bangkok; the remains of an extremely influential king can be found here. ... Stop three was perhaps Bangkok's most well-known tourist site, the Grand Palace. ... The temple within the palace grounds is something of an attraction for devout Buddhists; despite the fact that Bangkok alone has well over 300 'wats,' people come from far and wide to pray and give their respects to Buddha. ...

Dec 22, 2003 - Merry Xmas from Bangkok

We had a brilliant flight for some reason and were at our hotel within an hour. Next day, had a swim in the rooftop pool (8 quid a night for a double) and then went off to get a Thai Massage at Wat Pho - which houses the Thai Massage Institute (we hope to do a course for a week when we are back in Bangkok in 2 weeks). ... We arrived in Bangkok from Koh Samui and it's actually quite nice to be bombarded by heat on the airport tarmac after the storms and disappointing weather we've had over the last week. ... Our minds soon wished for the Samui weather after we felt burnt in Bangkok after only 10mins though! It's very hot and the humidity makes you feel constantly sticky. ... Travelled in style today on the new Bangkok skyway train system. ... We are only in Bangkok for 3 days on this stop so trying to see Roger as much as possible as well as checking out some of the great sites such as the Grand Palace and Golden Budda. ... It has been in the high 30's in Bangkok, so we'll be able to get a job in a restaurant as a lobster at least. ...

Dec 3, 2003 - Hong Kong to Bangkok

The flight was a good one and we were in Bangkok after 2hrs 15 mins and through customs about 2hrs 15 mins after that. ... We were a little concerned when the taxi that took us to the hotel had to be pushed to the taxi rank but we made it to the hotel safely through the horrendous Bangkok traffic, the engine cut out a few times. ... A quiet evening meal was interrupted by Bangkok's finest Elvis and Tom Jones impersonator, very surreal. ...

The flight to Bangkok was overnight with a 3 hour wait at Singapore airport which we were not realy looking forward to. ... We arrived at our pre booked hotel, the Montien in Bangkok which was very smart and friendly. ... The next day we went to the nearby Bangkok Christian Hospital which was very modern and extremely orgainised. ... We are very thankful this happened in Bangkok where there was a modern hospital and not some other far flung place. ... For most of the time in Bangkok we were looking after Billy, so only one of us could leave the hotel at a time. ...

Dec 25, 2002 - Christmas in Bangkok

Our first priority upon arrival in Bangkok was getting our Christmas shopping done. ... The traffic in Bangkok is so incredibly snarled that choosing where to go depends largely on how you can get there and then allowing enough time to actually get there. ... Second stop was the legendary Bangkok weekend market called the Chatuchak Market. ... It's on the outskirts of central Bangkok and attracts crowds in the tens of thousands. ... After careful consideration of the options, Dan and I had distilled Bangkok's many amazing sights down to two essential stops -- Wat Pho and The Grand Palace. ...
