Oct 9, 2009 - finally have time to post something

hi all, am still alive and well and living in the monsoon city of bangkok, its been raining cats and dogs here, havnt seen so much water in years outside of the dam in sydney, off to pattaya tomorrow for some snorkelling and swimming,the holiday has been great, although ive got an infected foot which needs dealing with but all ok, ive taken lots of pictures, some 10000 i think so it will take a while to sort them all out but ill sort the good from the bad and deal with them, i intend to print alot of them and put some on various internet sites,the african leg of my journey was really special, i made a lot of new friends and saw some extreme wildlife, from rhinos to gazelles it was quite an experience and to have climbed to the peak on mt kilimanjaro was the icing on the cake, if ever any of you get the chance to do it, dont waste a moment it was breathtaking, but difficult. ...

just downloaded some more pics, ann and i had a wonderfull time in langkawi, the beach was fantastic but the surf was rough and the beach pool was the best, we had a couple of really good tours where we went snorkelling with lots of colourful fish,we were going to scuba dive but the water visibility due to many people in the water was terrible so snorkellinfg was good enough, there were some white tip reef sharks there which made the snorkelling interesting.just downloaded some more pics, ann and i had a wonderfull time in langkawi, the beach was fantastic but the surf was rough and the beach pool was the best, we had a couple of really good tours where we went snorkelling with lots of colourful fish,we were going to scuba dive but the water visibility due to many people in the water was terrible so snorkellinfg was good enough, there were some white tip reef sharks there which made the snorkelling interesting....

October 3, 2009 We woke, refreshed and ready to plunge into hot, humid and muggy Bangkok. ... I have to admit that, try as I might, Bangkok is not my favorite city. ... She’s training in Bangkok and as luck would have it, Saturday is her one day off. ... The three of us wandered somewhat aimlessly through sections of the Grand Palace, caught a river taxi and then the BTS (Skytrain) to one of Bangkok’s ubiquitous shopping malls for the inglorious purpose of purchasing cheap cell phones. ... We chose to travel on the overnight bus from Bangkok to Chumphorn and then catch the high-speed catamaran to Koh Phangan. ... Bangkok is a busy bustling city, without the big city feeling. ... Admin first - I've accidentally set up 2 trip journals because I am a spaz. I was dead pleased with myself for managing to get a taxi to the station to buy my ticket yesterday, then walk the 2-3 miles back through Bangkok by simply remembering the way. ... I'm understandably getting a bit fed up of Bangkok tho. ... The Khao San Road is as you'd expect, a bit banging and a lot like Laganas strip or Nottingham on a Saturday night, but you can go out a little and find some nicer, quieter places.Admin first - I've accidentally set up 2 trip journals because I am a spaz. September 26, 2009 We met up with Emma and Eric (Eric is from Scotland and arrived yesterday and is staying in the same dorm with Emma), and So now the four of us headed off in the direction of Wat Pho to see if we could find James and have him give us a tour of the Grand Palace. On the streets of Bangkok you see many monks everywhere, as well as people going into the temples to pray. ... When we were in Antigua, Guatemala taking our Spanish Lessons we stayed at Jose and Karla Sanchez’s house, and were frequently entertained and delighted by their youngest daughter, Tiffany. On our first day in Bangkok, we had seen signs and ads for fish massage. ... Absolute Explorer run a fantastic day trip that takes you on a one hour train journey out of Bangkok where you jump onto bicycles and tour beautifully tranquil fields and rice paddies. ... I would recommend this trip to anyone who is in Bangkok and wants to do something different to temples, shopping and eating/drinking. ... 7 Sept - 11 Sept 2009 I decided to spend 3 nights in Bangkok to 'acclimatise' to my new surroundings. ... Bangkok - also known as the City of Angels or Venice of the East (it's sinking too!)- when spelt correctly in Thai has a spectactular 32 words. ...
